Make Your Life Better, One Small Step at a Time

You probably want to make your life better; maybe you want to redesign your life, make it easier, or simply improve one or two things. We’re creatures of evolution; we tend to seek whatever the organism thinks is “better” for survival reasons. In the savanna

we sought better protection, better places to gather fruit, better ways to survive and thrive. Same thing today! We just do it in different ways.

So you want to make your life better? But where do you start? And how do you make sure that you stick with your changes?

The answer is to start small. The Japanese philosophy of kaizen teaches that great change can be made through small, incremental steps. This is because our brains are more likely to accept change when it’s introduced gradually.

So if you’re looking to make your life better, don’t try to do too much at once. Start by making one small change. And stick with it. Day in, day out. Keeping focused on repeating the new habit daily. Noticing that you’re doing it. Noticing how good it feels

doing it. This could be anything from drinking more water to going for a walk every day. Once you’ve made that change a habit, you can start working on another one.

The important thing is to just keep moving forward. One small step at a time, you’ll eventually reach your goals.

Here’s what you can do

Think deep and broad. Don’t take everything at face value. Question the questions. Seek for answers. Be curious, be inquisitive.

Think positive. Making negative predictions and seeing the gloomy and problematic side of life won’t make it any better.

Focus on the good. If you want a better life, focus on what’s good already. See the positive to attract more positive.

Be grateful. As you notice all the small good thinks in your life, count your blessings. Appreciate them and don’t take them for granted.

Speak kindly. To yourself and others. It changes the way you think.

Give love. Show love to yourself, to the people around you, to nature.

Laugh. Find reasons not to just smile, but to laugh.

Be generous. Give time, attention, warmth, understanding to your loved ones and to those around you.

Be sincere. Be honest, speak up your mind, and tell the truth.

Be realistic. Strive to see things the way they are.

Be your authentic self. Don’t be ashamed of who you are. Embrace yourself with your imperfections, flaws, strengths, and weaknesses and be authentic.
